Markly Morrison This record is lush and vibrant breath of fresh air, a true anomaly in the modern sonic landscape. Plays like a warm blanket just in time for a cold winter. Headphones on for this one and you’ll be singing along by round two. Favorite track: Marmalade Honey.

Sometimes friends end up being just the last thing you know Sometimes truths vary depending on the day Story so it goes, honestly nobody knows Jelly bean Jerrt has a side I’m slowly coming to find Jelly bean Jerry’s laugh was kind of scary Like a truth you never wanted to know He used to hang out behind Lupitas taqueria Down on Silverlake and Alvarado Jerry was a simple guy, shady on the sly When candy came around You know he could be found on a sugar high 2021 Jerry was suspected of white collar crime Couldn’t be arrested on account he was protected By some high reach political ties Jerry slipped the states Wrote a letter just to touch base With a fake address I suspect he’s laying low playing dominos Jelly bean Jerry, where are you tonight?

A heart of stone won’t feel light The past will grow in weight I see right through your fools gold You ain’t no Hemmingway You step to blame all sorbet for your shame I know we’re all in pain I just don’t buy all your archetypes lies You fool Won’t be a fool for nobody But he’s a fool for you honey Leave it to love to light the surprise Compost the walls to spark the flame You’re growing spells out from eggshells A saving throw to own your pain Now dosed in smiles while your dogs all run wild I know we all can change The counterplot skipping stones off the clock Reclaim the fool Won’t be a fool for nobody But he’s a fool for you honey

Rolodex 02:56
Looks like you got a rolodex Of those on your resentment list Kids popular as CVS Clean up on isle six Flipping on a dime saying you aint got the time for love You try to hate it Every time we ride I catch you bobbing your mind to love songs You’re drunk Pardon me to ask what’s there to prove Dropping off the map seems that mask has outgrown you Got your coffee maker And you fill your cup Always going out for blood Looks like you got a rolodex Of stuff that hasn’t happened yet The future holds a big old mess To you that’s just a treasure chest You know you cant deny there’s a part of you inside that’s tired You try to fake it I catch you with a smile but you’re always in denial of your love You’re dumb Pardon me to ask what’s there to prove It aint gonna last seems that shell has outgrown you Got your pen and paper, just to take a name Running out of those to blame

Hey what’s up whatcha doin tonight boo? Texting you Can’t describe the excitement inside woo I’ll roll through I get up I get down I get crazy Waiting here What if he changes his mind Fold your hands fix your hair don’t look stupid Nothings wrong I forget how to speak ok Cupid Shoot your shot Hard to handle my brain and my body It’s a lot What if he changes his mind Cause he’s looking for that special someone Two week round the clock it’s been non stop What’s the deal His ringtone on my phone makes my heart drop Is this real Play it cool don’t assume don’t get jealous When you fear What if he changes his mind Now would you love me If I Spilled my drink on someone? Love me If I Ripped my pants or something? Love me If I Fall down a flight of stairs? Or love me Cause he’s really Looking for that special someone Are you looking for that special someone

They say that love is such a funny thing Can leave you knocked and left out on a string But I don’t live in fear of circumstance How do you know unless you take a chance Dance with me The city scapes are just a masquerade But you aint noticed since loves lemonade You’re dosed in colors electrophonic hues The type of voltage that’s surprising you Why don’t you dance with me

When I open my eyes And the dreams still in song In the key of a whisper In the melody of now Bent my ear to its tune Fruited love of the summertime Here’s your pantomime Our love is sweeter than marmalade honey Orange is the cloud that we lay upon To float in the notes to the tune of somebody And paint the dawn into a song When the canvas is fed Drinks the brush of the sun And the light speaks the quilt I’ll be keeping the light on Sugar dust on your curls Spun webs like a tilt-a-whirl Into your world Our love is sweeter than marmalade honey Orange is the cloud that we lay upon To float in the notes to the tune of somebody And paint the dawn into a song

Firefly 03:17
Well the fireflies Are in disguise Their psychology been a part of me that I fossilized Dig sifting off the artifacts Fall below Feel the glow When the shadow comes To greet the sun I get a heart attack and a broken back cause it weights a ton Bug magic just to peel your way From the smoke Greet your ghost We’re gonna learn to feel tonight All our love Well the talking cure Is so absurd I need a river swim when I’m wearing thin at a loss for words A little nature just to feel the light spark inside, catalyze Like a firefly Who comes alive Archeology in the part of me that I localize But still trippin on the artifacts Fall below Feel the Glow We’re gonna learn to feel tonight All our love

When you’re young you succumb to the rhythm and the strum of your dreams now They provoke you with fear, is it part of a career? Need that money now Demand that you burn all your poems And just do what you’re told I’ve had enough Give us back to the music You imagine and play then they take it away just to serve now Brake your back for some stacks take a break catch some flack Don’t be crying now They say that arts for the young But I belong to the drum I’ve had enough Give us back to the music

about

Light Speaks the Quilt was recorded all live in one big room at Tropico Beauty in Glendale with 20 microphones to a 2" tape machine. We chose the best takes committing to the moment!

This record also includes some different arrangements of songs on the previous LP Pastry. I have always been drawn to the ways songs unfold over time, specifically in the ways they change when playing with the band and in front of an audience. I wanted to capture the magic of our group right now. Much of this session was filmed and is included in the song descriptions.

A lot of recording this record felt like summer camp, the buzz of kid magic and honeyed wonder ... it was a truly a family affair. Where would we be without community and delivery pizza!
